Starknet votes to research an independent post-quantum L1. 93.52% in favour, non-binding.

What happened

  • A weeklong Snapshot poll closed with 93.52% support, about 4.57% No and 1.91% Neutral (CONFIRMED, StarkWare post on X; figures also in The Defiant and Yahoo Tech).
  • It drew about 3,236 votes representing roughly 489M STRK in voting power (REPORTED, Yahoo Tech).
  • The result backs further study, not a network transition (The Defiant).

What it does not mean

  • No migration, no token swap and no change to your STRK.
  • A later binding vote would be needed before anything changes. Its timing has not been announced.
  • Anyone offering a "new Starknet token swap" is a scam.

Why people care

Post-quantum security is about signatures that stay safe if quantum computers break today's. Whether and when that happens is uncertain (SPECULATION). The research is meant to test whether going independent would help.

Questions

Is Starknet becoming its own L1?

Not yet. The community voted to research it. A binding decision would come later.

Do I need to do anything with my STRK?

No. Ignore any message asking you to swap, migrate or claim.

This is research, not financial advice. Facts checked 25 October 2026.
